Happy New Years Eve and My Favs from 2010

I hope everyone has a safe NYE tonight. Hubby and I will be chillin at home. We haven’t had the best luck with NYE lately. Last year, while in Vegas, Hubby had food poisoning. This year, we’re both sick as dogs with a combination of the flu and strep throat!

I was kind of surprised at some of the big hitters for each month last year. It appears that some of my favorite recipes we’re a fan favorite. So I decided to post some of the recipes that I loved making, eating, and sharing that didn’t show up in my Reader’s Choice post from yesterday.

January: I have made this Butternut Squash and Spinach Casserole so many times in the past year. It’s great for potlucks because it makes a lot of food and it’s delicious. The picture isn’t that great, but believe me, it’s worth making.

February: Back in February, a friend of ours hosted a Bundt-Off. I made this Cinnamon Roll Monkey Bread for the competition and it was amazing. Just think of monkey bread, but instead of pulling apart little pieces of biscuit, imagine pulling apart tiny cinnamon rolls. I should definitely make this again in 2011.

March: These Chocolate Almost Candy Bars combine a bunch of amazing flavors into one ooey-gooey bar. They have peanuts and raisins and chocolate and oats and they’re just awesome. These bars were part of my Week of Bars and Brownies.

April: I had a lot of fun making layer cakes in 2010. I hope to continue to find excuses to make them even more in 2011. The Lemon Raspberry Layer Cake is perfect for Easter or Mother’s Day or any spring day. It’s light and fruity and oh-so-pretty.

May: I love asparagus. It might be my favorite vegetable. Posting a recipe for Roasted Asparagus seemed somewhat silly to me at the time, but I often get asked how I roast my veggies. When Hubby and I have people over or cook for someone, we always do a side of roasted some-veggie-that’s-in-season. This technique works for any veggie you can think of. Our favs are broccoli, asparagus, and brussels sprouts.

June: June was a big strawberry month for us this year. We went strawberry picking. Hubby made me a Strawberry Shortcake Cake for my birthday. And I featured TWO Weeks of strawberry recipes in my blog. But you have to admit, there’s nothing better than a freshly picked strawberry. My favorite strawberry recipe of the season was this Salmon with Strawberry and Tomato Salsa. We were eating it at least once a week in June. Sometimes even more than that!

July: July was another busy month, but a lot of my posting was about our trip to SF for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. I did post about these Chicken Gyros. They’re pretty popular in food blogs, so I’m sure you’ve all seen them before. And if you haven’t made them yet, maybe this picture will remind you that you should. Cause they’re awesome.

August: There was a lot of posting going on in August around my third blogiversary and all the recap posts and giveaways. But intermingled in those posts were some great food posts too. In fact, I couldn’t pick just one favorite from that month, so I’m picking two. Hey, it’s my list, I can do what I want with it! First, these Salmon Burgers with Homemade Hamburger Buns kicked off a Week of Burgers. The smoked salmon in the burgers really brings these up a notch.

Second, the Massaged Kale Salad. It’s so easy to make and tastes crispy and delicious the next day as well. We ate a lot of this salad last fall.

September: September was a great month largely due to the Trip to King Arthur Flour where I had the chance to meet and get to know some great Boston area bloggers. My favorite recipe of the month was this Fig, Goat Cheese, and Caramelized Onion Crostini. What a great combination of flavors.

October: I feel like a broken record, but I have to say, Homemade Marshmallows have to be on your must-make list for 2011. Trust me on this one, you will not regret the decision to make them for one second.

November: There were lots of great fall-foods in November, but I have to say, my favorite were the Spiced Butternut Squash Cupcakes that wrapped up my Week of Butternu Squash. They were so moist and flavorful and there was just something intriguing about them that made them a favorite in our house.

December: And last but not least, the Homemade Green Bean Casserole. It’s just so hearty and delicious. I think it would be a great side dish even at non-holiday meals. In fact, I might just make some this weekend…

Are there other posts that were a fav of yours that weren’t on either of the lists I published? What about a favorite from your blog?
