About

Jen Perez

I am Jen the Beantown Baker. Engineer by day and baking maven by night. Hubby serves as my #1 fan and official taste tester. We got hitched back in 2006. Barefoot. In the sand. With the waves crashing behind us. It was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.

When we moved from Cincinnati to Boston in 2007, we took a major hit in the squarefootage department. In 2009, we decided we were sick of our poorly laid out, majorly out of date kitchen. We had it gutted and completely renovated. It’s still pretty dang small, but our kitchen designer had some great ideas that gave us more counterspace and more storage.

When Beantown Baker was started back in 2007, I was obsessed with cupcakes. More recently, I’ve been leaning towards cookies and bars/brownies. I love all desserts and have a huge to-bake list. While Hubby serves as my number one taste tester, our coworkers and friends get to enjoy my baked goods on a regular basis as well.

After almost 6 years in Boston, work brought us back to Cincinnati at the end of 2012. Even though I’m not located in Beantown any longer, Boston is where my passion for baking began and flourished. So while I’m no longer living in Boston, I still think of myself as Beantown Baker.

I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can about photography over the past few years. In 2008 I got a Nikon D40 and in 2009 I got a 35mm prime lens, which is what I shoot my food photographs with 99% of the time. I am lucky that our kitchen has huge windows so I can get a lot of natural light during the day. The problem is shooting dinner pics after the sun has gone down… I’m learning as I go though.

I’d love to hear from you! Feel free to leave me a comment or shoot me an email.
