Burger of the Gods

For my last burger, I wanted to do a beef burger. I headed over to my Google Reader to see what fellow bloggers had to offer recipe wise. I honestly didn’t see anything that jumped out at me. Then I remembered that Alton Brown did an episode where he made a meatloaf and a burger. I had high hopes for this recipe because 1, it’s from Alton Brown 2, of the 62 reviews online it still had an average rating of 5 stars and 3, the recipe is called Burger of the Gods.

I set out to grab the ingredients and of course, I couldn’t find just 8 oz of chuck and sirloin. The smallest amount of each was 1.3 lbs. Luckily the only other ingredient is Kosher salt, so I didn’t have to do too much math to adjust the recipe.

I ended up with 8 patties, which again, I froze. This time I froze them prior to cooking them. I figured a beef patty is best medium rare and that’s hard to accomplish if you cook it, then reheat it.

I was thinking about toppings for our burger and I decided to go with tomato and mustard – one of my favorite topping combos. This burger is awesome. It tastes like steak on a bun. We enjoyed them and are excited to have a couple more meals worth in the freezer!

Burger of the Gods

Yield: 3

Ingredients:

8 ounces chuck, trimmed, cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
8 ounces sirloin, trimmed, cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Directions:

In separate batches, pulse (for a few seconds) the chuck and the sirloin in a food processor 10 times. Combine the chuck, sirloin, and kosher salt in a large bowl. Form the meat into 5-ounce patties.

Heat a cast iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Place the hamburger patties in the pan. For medium-rare burgers, cook the patties for 4 minutes on each side. For medium burgers, cook the patties for 5 minutes on each side. Flip the burgers only once during cooking.

    That looks like a good rub I like a lot of those ingredients but you dont have to put them in the oven you can wrap them in heavy duty foil then grill then unwrap then grill and baste with whatever sauce you have.There are some more good tips and recipes at http://www.cookingandgrillinoutdoors.com

    Yea… Hubby misses having a grill. At our old house, we grilled almost every night in the summer. Now we live in a tiny condo in Boston and we have no where to have a grill 🙁
