Operation Baking Gals Round 17 Roundup

I wanted to take a minute to thank everyone who participated in Team Beantown Baker for Operation Baking Gals Round 17. We had 20 (woohoo a full team!) team members sending care packages to Jesse who is stationed in Afghanistan. Jesse should be getting all of his packages later this month. Thanks again everyone who helped make Jesse’s day a bit brighter.

I asked the members of my team to send me any pictures or links to blog updates about their packages. I love seeing all the hard work people have put in to help make a stranger’s day. Here are some of the things that Jesse will be receiving from our team.

Diane sent about 7 dozen cookies, a combination of peanut butter cookies with vanilla chips and macadamia nuts, orange cookies with vanilla chips and chocolate truffle cookies.

Anuzie sent about 3-4 dozen white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies, 3-4 dozen regular chocolate chip cookies, and 1 box Fiber One granola bars.

Kelly sent some puppy chow, homemade caramel corn with M&Ms, peanut butter blondies, Thin Mints, licorice, and some hot chocolate

Kristy sent ranch snack mix and two dozen inside out chocolate chip cookies.

Julie of The Sporadic Cook sent Ranger Cookies and Magic Cookie Bars

Rebecca sent oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, Rice Krispies treats, muddy buddies, and homemade hot chocolate mix.

Michelle sent 2 dozen chocolate chip cookies, 2 dozen white chocolate macadamia nut cookies, and some combos.

Lisa sent chocolate chocolate chip muffins, pistacio bread, fixings for smores, and assorted granola bars.

Tera sent Blarney Stone Cookie with peanuts, Chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips, beef jerky, Granola Nut clusters, Trail Mix, Assorted candy, Magazines, Teddy grahams, Peach applesauce, Oatmeal to go bars, and Assorted 100 calorie pack snacks.

Susan of Design Bake Share sent mini chocolate chip shortbread, brownies and banana bread.

Sandra sent 2 dozen cookie-brownies, 4 dozen peanut butter cookies, 2 dozen chocolate chip cookies, as well as some gum, chocolate, and gummy candies.

Lauren of Baking Away sent peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip cookies, double chocolate brownies, and some candy.

Carly sent Thayer bars, chocolate chip cookies (The Chewy – aka my fav chocolate chip recipe!), some hot chocolate mix, mini marshmallows, and Oreos.

I always try to include some favorites of the person recieving the package. I made some white chocolate and macadamia nut bars (recipe to be posted soon) and some lumberjacks (Hubby’s favorite cookie). I also added some applesauce, some Combos, and mini candy bars.

If I missed you in this recap, please let me know and I’ll be sure to update it.

Aren’t they the best? They’re so addicting. I’ve actually starting using the same ingredients, but mixing them like a more traditional chocolate chip cookie (i.e., softened butter instead of melted), because I like the dough better with softened butter. The baked cookies were just as good. Best of both worlds!

I love the ATK/CI Thick and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies. I will have to try these to see what I think. I remember seeing that the recipes looked similar so I am sure I will love them.
Another AB lover here. My husband gives me a hard time about my DVR list with him but loves it when I give him a fun tidbit or cook him something from AB.

I completely agree CoCo. Hubby does the same thing. I sometimes even watch episodes I’ve seen before! Hubby doesn’t like to admit it, but he loves AB too. Sometimes he’ll be the one saying “AB says to do this…”

They look SO good!! I am a sucker for a chewy chocolate chip cookie. Although, I must side with your hubby – I prefer mine with just a bit of chocolate.

How much is a stick of butter? I’m not in the US and have never come across this measurement before.

Sorry about that Naomi – 1 stick of butter = 8 Tbsp. Does that help?

Yum! I will definitely be trying these. I always chill my cookie dough too usually because I’m too busy with 3 little ones but I also read that article in the NY times awhile ago and I felt like I deserved a nice big pat on the back for always doing the 24hour chill 🙂 Great post and beautiful cookies!

I love Alton Brown because of his scientific approach to cooking and baking. I’ve been baking “The Chewy” for years. One thing I do differently: Before chilling the dough, I scoop it into balls. This makes the process much easier. Sometimes I freeze the balls for baking later. After I place the balls on parchment, I carefully place a few extra chocolate morsels on top, pointy side up. This extra step produces picture-perfect cookies every time.

The Chewy is my go to recipe for cookies. I make a few alterations, occasionally, such as substituting 1/4 of the brown sugar with dark brown sugar. I bake small portions in mini muffin tins; one batch makes 48 cookie bites that are super chewy and the perfect size bite. I’ve made them every year for Christmas gifts for a few years now.
