California Turkey Burgers
Would you believe that Avocado was one of the foods I had never tried until recently. I think it was two summers ago when I first tried avocado and I’ve been in love ever since. I am definitely a firm believer that avocado makes anything taste better. I dare you to try to name something that wouldn’t be even more amazing by adding avocado. They’re so versatile and they are good for you!
It seems fitting that you can call almost anything California style by adding avocado. That is in fact where most of the avocados in the country are grown. This regular old turkey burger is dressed up with avocado, sprouts, and tomato and given the name California. Whatever you call it, it’s down right delicious.
Even without the California toppings, these turkey burgers are very moist and tasty. I was again inspired by the little booklet in the June issue of Food Network Magazine. It has 50 burger recipes in it. They actually have the California toppings on a chicken burger, but I had ground turkey sitting around, so I used their turkey burger recipe for the patties.

California Turkey Burgers – adapted from Food Network Magazine – serves 4
1 1/4 lb ground turkey
1/2 cup grated onion
1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp chopped thyme
salt and pepper to taste
sliced red onion
Combine all ingredients with your hands. Try to handle the meat as little as possible. Shape into four 1-inch thick patties and chill for an hour or more. Cook 4-5 minutes per side on an oiled grill.
Serve on a bun with toppings of your choice.
