Superbowl Snack Throwdown – Playoffs week 1

Sorry this post is coming out so late… Hubby and I had a very busy weekend this weekend and just got back into town. It was a lot of fun, just really packed full of things to do. We didn’t get a chance to watch much football, but we did see the Bengals lose in their game 🙁 and the Patriots also lost 😀

Since it’s Sunday, it’s time to review Highlowaha’s Super Bowl Snack Throwdown recipes from Kate and Lauren. This week’s secret ingredient is Worcestershire sauce! As a reminder, recipes are to be judged on the following criterion: Creative use of the ingredient, most likely to be eaten first, best photograph, and reproducibility. So now, on to the recipes (be sure to click through to check out the entire recipes).

Kate made Drop Kick Chip Dip.

Lauren made Crockpot Sloppy Joeys.

I’m going to start with creativity this week. I think it’s hard to get very creative with Worcestershire sauce… It’s great in things, but very difficult to highlight. That being said, I think Lauren took a creative spin on a classic sloppy Joe recipe. She used turkey to make them healthier and made them mini. Sliders have been all the rage recently, and who doesn’t love something mini-sized!?!

As far as reproducibility goes, I think Kate takes the cake in this category. You really can’t mess up mixing up some dip and serving it with chips.

When it comes to photography, I have to give it to Lauren. Her photos have been consistently great throughout the season. I’m not sure if it’s the camera or the photographer, but I’ve always been impressed with her food photographs.

Last but not least is most likely to disappear at a football gathering. This is a tough category. In one hand, a mini sandwich is always welcome on my plate of goodies. On the other hand, dip disappears in an instant. Especially if you put it on the coffee table in front of football fans. So I’m going to call this category a tie, which means…

Congratulations Lauren! I can’t wait to see what you and Kate come up with next week!!

Good luck to Lauren and Kate in the playoffs!
